Ali Gaye, a defensive end for the Houston Texans, has encountered a significant setback after suffering a major knee injury during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. According to reports from KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson, an MRI confirmed the severity of the injury, which will necessitate a lengthy recovery period and a medical procedure.
The 27-year-old Gaye, who stands 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 265 pounds, initially joined the Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2023 after a stint with the Tennessee Titans. In his career, he has recorded nine tackles and one sack. Gaye was expected to add depth to the Texans' defensive line behind established players Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter.
Unfortunately for the Texans, Gaye's injury adds to a growing list of injuries affecting the team, particularly among defensive ends. This development raises concerns about the team's depth at that position as they prepare for the upcoming season. Gaye is now anticipated to miss the entire 2026 season, a situation that poses challenges for a team aiming for Super Bowl contention.
In a related incident during the same practice, Texans offensive tackle Braden Smith also sustained a foot injury, but he is expected to be sidelined for only a few weeks. The Texans will need to address their roster depth as they navigate these injuries. Further updates on Gaye's condition are expected as the team assesses the situation.
