Sandell decides it
47 yards separated Oklahoma from Texas at the finish. Tate Sandell made a 47-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, giving the Sooners a 27-24 victory over the Longhorns on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Cotton Bowl. Oklahoma was the home team, and Texas was the visiting team.
The kick capped a fourth quarter in which the teams combined for 24 points. Oklahoma entered the period trailing 17-10, then tied the game when Lloyd Avant scored on a 2-yard run, with Sandell adding the kick. Texas answered when Peyton Bowen returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown, followed by another kick from Sandell.
Texas tied the game at 24-24 on Arch Manning’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Bishop Jr. Gianni Spetic made the extra point before Sandell’s winning field goal.
Texas builds an early lead
Texas took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on Manning’s 41-yard touchdown pass to Cam Coleman, with Gianni Spetic making the kick. Oklahoma pulled even in the second quarter when Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown, followed by Sandell’s kick.
Manning and Texas regained the lead on a 34-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo. Spetic’s kick made it 14-7. Spetic then added a 23-yard field goal, sending Texas into halftime ahead 17-7.
Oklahoma trimmed the margin in the third quarter on Sandell’s 53-yard field goal. The quarter scores were Texas 7, 10, 0 and 7; Oklahoma 0, 7, 3 and 17.
