The Houston Texans have made a significant addition to their wide receiver lineup by trading for Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. This move comes after the Texans' second-year wide receiver Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL in practice, creating a pressing need for depth at the position.
Boutte, who spent three years with the Patriots, was traded in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick and safety Jayden Reed. He was seen as a valuable asset on the trade market, particularly for the Texans, who were looking to fill the gap left by Higgins.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans addressed the trade after a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, expressing his enthusiasm for Boutte's potential impact on the team's offense. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," Ryans stated. He emphasized Boutte's ability to make big plays, noting the challenges of replacing Higgins, a significant contributor to the team.
Ryans highlighted Boutte's growth as a player, stating, "He's a young player. Still an ascending player with a lot to improve upon; a lot to grow." He expressed excitement about working with Boutte, who has already demonstrated big playmaking ability during his time in New England.
In the 2025 season, Boutte recorded 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns, contributing to the Patriots' Super Bowl appearance. This marked his second consecutive season with over 30 catches and 500 yards, while also doubling his touchdown total from the previous year.
