Texas Health Resources is expanding access to mental health care through the launch of a faith-based outpatient behavioral health program that combines clinical treatment with spiritual support. The initiative began at Texas Health Behavioral Health Center Alliance in north Fort Worth and has now expanded to a second site, Texas Health Behavioral Health Center Rockwall.
The program targets adults seeking evidence-based mental health care within an environment that respects their personal faith and values. Ken Jones, the behavioral health clinical officer at Texas Health, described the initiative as a way to merge proven therapeutic methods with a faith perspective that many patients already utilize during difficult periods.
Jones noted that the program provides a space for individuals to explore not only their mental health challenges but also deeper questions regarding purpose, meaning, and belief. He stated that faith and mental health have traditionally been treated as separate conversations, but this approach allows them to be brought together in a clinically appropriate manner.
The intensive outpatient program was developed to address a perceived gap in traditional services, particularly for patients who often turn to faith leaders before seeking licensed mental health providers. Research indicates that while many adults find spiritual support beneficial, mental health is not always discussed openly within religious communities.
Offered in a group setting, the treatment utilizes established methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy to help patients manage anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. Licensed therapists with expertise in both clinical care and faith-informed practices guide participants in identifying harmful thought patterns and building resilience.
Although grounded in a Christian worldview, the program is open to individuals of all faiths. Jones emphasized that the goal is to create a safe space where patients from diverse backgrounds can engage in meaningful conversations while receiving quality care. Since its launch earlier this year, the program has reported growing participation and positive feedback.
