Several Fort Worth hospitals in the Texas Health Resources system are among the facilities honored this year by the American Heart Association for heart attack, stroke and diabetes care.
Across the system, 16 Texas Health facilities earned the association's Get With The Guidelines recognition for cardiovascular care, and 14 were recognized for stroke and diabetes care, according to an Oct. 8 report in the Mansfield Record.
The heart attack honors come from the association's Get With The Guidelines Coronary Artery Disease program, which rates how closely hospitals follow treatment guidelines and work on quality improvement. The program looks at three conditions: STEMI, a heart attack caused by a complete blockage of a coronary artery; NSTEMI, which is usually less damaging and involves a partial blockage; and acute coronary syndrome.
Fort Worth hospitals
Among hospitals that receive and treat STEMI patients, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance reached the top tier, Gold Plus, along with the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South earned Gold with the diabetes honor roll, and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth earned Bronze Plus.
The Fort Worth, Alliance, Huguley and Southwest hospitals also earned NSTEMI Gold with the diabetes honor roll. Texas Health Fort Worth received a separate Gold Plus award for heart failure care.
Elsewhere in the region
Other Gold Plus STEMI receiving centers were the system's hospitals in Arlington (Heart & Vascular), Frisco, Allen, Dallas, Denton and Plano. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford earned Silver, and Texas Health Hospital Mansfield earned Bronze. Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital was recognized at the Gold Plus level as a referring center, a hospital that stabilizes heart attack patients and transfers them for advanced care, and the Cleburne and Stephenville hospitals earned referring-center Bronze.
