BNSF Railway has announced an expansion of its intermodal freight service linking the Phoenix metropolitan area with the Dallas-Fort Worth region. The carrier stated that the enhanced route is designed to provide shippers with a more economical and faster option for moving goods between two rapidly growing Southwest markets.
The primary goal of the update is to shift freight currently transported by truck onto rail lines.
Under the new schedule, the service will operate six days a week, a change driven by increasing customer demand. BNSF indicated that the route from Phoenix to North Texas will be completed in just over three days, measured from train departure to when the freight is available for pickup.
This frequency increase is intended to address capacity needs as the industry approaches the domestic peak shipping season, a period typically associated with tighter availability and higher highway rates.
Jon Gabriel, Group Vice President of Consumer Products at BNSF, noted that customers are seeking capacity solutions while managing transportation costs. He described the expanded service as a response to changing market conditions, highlighting the combination of reliable transit times and access to key markets. Gabriel emphasized that the move supports the advantages of intermodal transportation for shippers in these regions.
The service utilizes the Alliance Intermodal Facility in North Texas. This location provides access to a wide transportation network, significant warehouse and distribution capacity, and connections to major consumer markets across the United States. By positioning this lane as a key corridor, BNSF aims to compete for freight that has traditionally moved via over-the-road trucks.
