American Airlines announced plans to begin daily nonstop service connecting Chicago O’Hare International Airport with Tokyo Narita International Airport. The new route is scheduled to commence next spring and will operate year-round.

The carrier highlighted the expansion as part of its ongoing investment in the Chicago hub, noting a long-standing partnership with Japan Airlines. CEO Robert Isom revealed the details during an event held at the Chicago airport.

Flights on this new corridor will be flown using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The cabin configuration includes 30 Flagship Business seats and 21 Premium Economy seats. Passengers can book tickets through the airline’s website or mobile application.

The service allows travelers to connect to other Asian destinations via Japan Airlines’ network, including Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei, and Ho Chi Minh City. A joint business agreement between the two carriers enables eligible AAdvantage members to earn and redeem miles while accessing reciprocal loyalty benefits.

In addition to the Tokyo launch, American Airlines is expanding its domestic network from Chicago. New routes to Charlottesville, Virginia, will begin in November, followed by service to Ontario, California, starting in December.

The airline also cited recent upgrades to its Chicago facilities, including a new Admiral’s Club lounge, expanded premium seating options, and enhanced customer amenities.

American Airlines Group employs about 8,900 people in Fort Worth, according to local government records.
