Fort Worth, Texas — Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns added a major piece to their 2027 recruiting haul on the Fourth of July when five-star offensive lineman Ismael Camara pledged to the Burnt Orange, selecting Texas from a finalist group that included Oregon, SMU, LSU, and Alabama.
Camara is a 6-foot-5, 225-pound tackle from Gilmer High School whose background sets him apart from most elite recruits. He was raised in Le Mans, France, and discovered American football relatively late, moving to the United States during his early high school years. The 247Sports evaluation calls him an elite offensive line prospect with a rare combination of high-end physical tools and functional athleticism, drawing a comparison to NFL tackle Kadyn Proctor.
Kyle Flood, Texas's offensive line coach, led the recruitment of Camara, who took official visits to three programs in June. He toured LSU on June 5, Texas on June 12, and Oregon on June 19 before announcing his decision on July 4. His junior season at Gilmer in 2025 marked his first taste of varsity football, as Texas transfer rules held him to the sub-varsity level as a sophomore in 2024.
Camara's athletic profile is bolstered by his experience in track and field, where he has posted a shot put mark of 46-8.5 and a discus throw of 135-6. Scouting analysts note his above-average foot quickness relative to his mass, his willingness to play with a physical edge, and his potential to line up at either tackle or guard at the collegiate level.
