The Houston Texans' offense has been a focal point during the offseason, particularly with starting quarterback C.J. Stroud generating significant attention. However, questions have also arisen regarding the wide receiver position, specifically concerning Tank Dell's readiness to start.

Jonathan M. Alexander from the Houston Chronicle reports that Dell is not expected to be available for the team's first game. Although he began practicing in a limited capacity during the second week of training camp, Dell has not participated in media-viewable practices for the past three days.

While two sources indicate he has not experienced a setback, he is not yet able to practice consistently.

With the Texans' final preseason game approaching, it seems unlikely that Dell will participate. This situation may force the team to carry seven receivers on their 53-man roster instead of the usual six as they await his full return.

Jayden Higgins was initially projected to be the No. 2 wide receiver alongside Nico Collins, but his ACL injury has created uncertainty in that role. Potential replacements include Xavier Hutchinson, who showed improvement last season and is in a contract year, and Jaylin Noel, who has demonstrated playmaking ability.

While there is hope that Dell can return to his previous explosive form, it remains unclear how long that might take. The Texans cannot rely on his performance until he is seen on the field in a complete regular-season game, and even then, his ability to maintain that level throughout the season is uncertain.

Although the Texans may still achieve their goals without a fully healthy Dell, his presence would certainly be beneficial. Dell aims to regain a starting position by the 2026 season.
