The Dallas Cowboys secured a 17-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in their first preseason game, but the win was overshadowed by a new injury to running back Phil Mafah. During the game, Mafah suffered a chest injury and was initially listed as questionable to return before being ruled out for the remainder of the match.

Fortunately, early assessments suggest that Mafah's injury is not serious. He currently ranks third on the Cowboys' depth chart behind Javonte Williams and Jaydon Blue. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided an update during a press conference, stating, "Yeah, he's okay, I talked to him. I think we came out okay, a little bumps and bruises."

Schottenheimer also mentioned other players who experienced minor injuries, including Justin Barron, but expressed confidence that everyone would be fine after treatment in Oxnard. The team is preparing for roster cuts, and Mafah is competing for a spot on the final 53-man roster.

In terms of performance, veteran Malik Davis stood out in the game, recording seven carries for 39 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Mafah, who was drafted in the seventh round of 2025, had a challenging rookie season, playing only one game and achieving five carries for 18 yards and a touchdown.

Further updates on Mafah's condition and the team's roster decisions are expected as the preseason progresses.
