The Dallas Cowboys have officially signed linebacker Von Miller to a one-year contract, marking his long-standing interest in the team throughout the offseason. Miller joins a restructured defense that features approximately six new starters and a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker. In the previous season with the Washington Commanders, Miller recorded nine sacks.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Miller's abilities, noting that despite his age of 37 and 14 seasons in the NFL, he still brings significant value to the team. Schottenheimer highlighted Miller's football intelligence and quickness, stating, "He understands the game; the football intellect is top tier."

While Miller may not participate in every play, Schottenheimer believes his presence will enhance the Cowboys' defensive capabilities.

In 2025, Miller played 17 games for the Commanders, starting three and participating in 420 defensive snaps, which accounted for 37 percent of the team's total. It is anticipated that his role with the Cowboys will be similar, where he could substitute in for critical third-down situations while other players handle early downs.

Miller, who was selected second overall in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M, has established himself as one of the league's premier defenders. He won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award in his debut season and was named Super Bowl MVP after the 2015 season, contributing to the Denver Broncos' championship win.

He also secured another Super Bowl title with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.

With 138.5 career sacks, Miller holds the record for the most sacks among active players and is currently tied with Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware for 13th place on the all-time list. He needs just 3.5 more sacks to break into the top 10, a milestone the Cowboys hope he will achieve as he contributes to their defense in the upcoming season.
