Jared Nuness, a former assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, has agreed to a two-year show-cause order after admitting to placing thousands of bets on sports. This resolution was released by the NCAA following an investigation that began when Nuness was flagged by a third-party sports wagering monitoring system in November 2025.
Baylor conducted an internal investigation and reported its findings to the NCAA in December 2025, which initiated a joint investigation. Nuness acknowledged to the NCAA in February 2026 that he violated NCAA rules by betting on professional sports through two online sportsbooks. He also admitted to allowing his minor son access to those betting accounts.
The NCAA's report indicated that Nuness' son placed three bets on NCAA Division I men’s basketball games, totaling $170. Notably, none of these wagers involved Baylor University or its student-athletes. Between December 29, 2020, and November 28, 2025, Nuness reportedly placed approximately 3,400 bets amounting to about $38,000 while he was on Baylor's coaching staff.
Nuness accepted full responsibility for his betting activities, and both he and the NCAA enforcement staff agreed to classify the case as a Level II-Standard violation. Baylor Athletics stated that they cooperated with the NCAA throughout the investigation and emphasized their ongoing compliance education efforts, including collaboration with ProhiBet.
In a statement attributed to spokesman Brent Ingram, Baylor confirmed that Nuness left the coaching staff in December 2025 due to personal reasons. The Show Cause order mandates that Nuness undergo meaningful sports betting education and provide similar education to his peers.
