The Dallas Cowboys have confirmed the signing of Von Miller, a DeSoto, TX native, who has been in discussions with the team since before training camp began last month. Miller is entering his 15th NFL season and aims to enhance the Cowboys' defense, particularly in pass protection for right tackle Terence Steele.
He brings a wealth of experience, boasting 138.5 career sacks, the highest among active players.
Miller's addition poses challenges for some players at the edge rusher position. He is expected to primarily play as a left outside linebacker, a position he has occupied for most of his career. Rashan Gary, acquired through trade earlier this year, is currently the starting left outside linebacker, while rookie Malachi Lawrence has also been practicing at this position during the preseason.
On the right side, second-year player Donovan Ezeiruaku is expected to take the lead, with James Houston serving as the primary rotational player. This setup leaves Sam Williams and Marist Liufau in a precarious position, as both are competing for the same role on the roster and face an uphill battle to secure spots on the 53-man team.
Liufau, who has potential trade value, may attract interest from other teams due to his inside linebacker capabilities. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have additional players like Tyrus Wheat, Isaiah Land, and Adedayo Odeleye to evaluate, with 17 practice squad slots available for promising candidates.
