The Diamond Hill Northside Youth Association in Fort Worth has observed a significant rise in youth soccer enrollment, with participation numbers doubling over the last twelve months. The organization attributes this growth to the ongoing World Cup and the tournament's influence on local community interest.
Roxanne Martinez, the executive director of the association, noted that North Texas is hosting more World Cup matches than any other city in the region. This heightened visibility has contributed to increased engagement in local sports programming. The organization originally introduced soccer to its offerings following the previous World Cup cycle.
The program serves children between the ages of four and eighteen who reside in the Northside section of Fort Worth. According to Martinez, the initiative aims to support the physical and mental health of participants while providing access to the sport. To address financial barriers, the association has waived 75% of registration fees for the current season.
Martinez stated that the majority of children in the program are able to join at no cost. The organization is also facilitating mentorship opportunities, pairing high school and college athletes with younger players to support their development.
