Both players hit their 20th home runs of the season, providing the offensive spark that overwhelmed the Astros' pitching staff. The Nationals, playing at home, secured the win in front of 17,760 fans at Nationals Park.

The Nationals jumped out to an early lead in the third inning. In the top of the frame, Abrams hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Wood to score and give Washington a 1-0 advantage. Later in the inning, Lile doubled to left field, bringing Garcia Jr. home to extend the lead to 2-0.

The game's momentum shifted decisively in the fourth inning when Garcia Jr. homered to right center, a 417-foot shot that drove in two runs. Ruiz and Wood crossed the plate as the Nationals took a commanding 5-0 lead. Foster Griffin earned the win for Washington, pitching seven innings. He allowed one earned run on five hits while striking out nine batters without issuing a walk. Orlando Ribalta pitched the sixth inning, allowing two hits, and Justin Lawrence closed out the game in the ninth, retiring the side with one hit allowed.

The Astros' starting pitcher, Spencer Arrighetti, took the loss. He pitched four innings, giving up eight earned runs on seven hits and six walks while striking out two. Alimber Santa, Nate Pearson, and Cristian Javier relieved Arrighetti, combining to pitch four innings and hold the Nationals to one run. The Nationals improved their record to 48-46, while the Astros fell to 46-49.
