Clement changes it late
Two runs in the 10th inning turned Clement’s swing into the separator at Daikin Park, where the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 5-4 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, before 27,751. Clement homered to left, a 391-foot shot that scored Urías and broke a 3-3 tie.
It was one of exactly three home runs in the game and gave Toronto its only lead after Houston had scored the first three runs.
Astros build a 3-0 lead
Houston went ahead in the third inning on Altuve’s 401-foot homer to left. The Astros added two more runs in the same inning: Walker doubled to left to score Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to bring in Walker.
Toronto answered in the sixth. Okamoto singled to center, scoring Straw, to cut the deficit to 3-1. Sánchez then tied it with a 398-foot homer to right, with Okamoto scoring on the play. The sequence left the game at 3-3, and neither team scored again until the 10th.
Pitching keeps it close
Jameson Taillon allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks in four innings for Toronto, striking out four. Spencer Miles pitched two innings with two hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Mason Fluharty had one inning with no hits, no walks and two strikeouts.
Tyler Rogers allowed one hit in one inning with no walks and no strikeouts. Louis Varland worked one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout, earning the win to move to 4-4.
For Houston, Hunter Brown allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks in six innings, striking out eight. Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run. Bennett Sousa took the loss, falling to 0-1 after one inning with two hits, one earned run, no walks and one strikeout.
Toronto closes it out
Houston got one run back in the 10th when Alvarez singled to right, scoring Peña. Alvarez was out stretching at second, and the Astros’ challenge was upheld. Chase Lee allowed one hit and no earned runs in one inning for his first save. The Blue Jays improved to 54-61, while the Astros fell to 59-57.
