Alvarez Drives In Key Runs
Houston Astros outfielder Alex Alvarez provided the offensive spark with two home runs that helped secure a dominant 7-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners. Alvarez’s performance included a three-run homer in the third inning and a two-run shot in the eighth, accounting for five of Houston’s seven total runs.
Alvarez opened the scoring in the first inning by singling to right field, which allowed Yordan Peña to cross the plate for a 1-0 lead. The Astros extended their advantage significantly in the third when Alvarez launched a 377-foot home run to left field. That blast scored Jose Altuve and Yuli Gurriel, turning the score into a commanding 4-0 advantage.
Pitching Dominance Seals Shutout
The Houston bullpen combined for seven innings of perfect baseball, allowing no earned runs while striking out eight batters. Miguel Ullola (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) earned the win, improving his record to 1-0. He was supported by Cristian Javier, who pitched two innings with two strikeouts despite walking two batters.
Bennett Sousa also contributed two scoreless frames with three strikeouts.
Relievers AJ Blubaugh and Logan VanWey closed out the game without allowing a run. Blubaugh retired one batter in one inning, while VanWey worked two innings, striking out two. The collective effort allowed Houston to maintain their lead throughout the final innings.
