Fort Worth, Texas — Texas began the 2026 MLB Draft by selecting Gio Rojas, a left-handed high-school pitcher, with the 16th overall pick Saturday.
The Rangers’ first pick came from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. MLB Pipeline listed Rojas eighth in its draft rankings and rated him among the class’s leading left-handed arms.
Rangers director of amateur scouting Kip Fagg said the team had considered the possibility that Rojas could be available, while viewing it as unlikely during its preparation.
According to MLB, Rojas’ fastball can reach 98 mph. His pitch mix also includes a sweeping slider and changeup; he recorded a 0.58 ERA and 124 strikeouts in 72 innings as a senior.
