The Dallas Cowboys faced the challenging task of trimming their roster to 53 players ahead of the deadline this weekend. Among the notable cuts were second-year running back Jaydon Blue and former second-round pick Sam Williams. In a surprising move, the Cowboys also waived quarterback Joe Milton III after his strong preseason performance to make room for newly claimed running back Emari Demercado.

Despite the cuts, the Cowboys retained several players by signing them to their practice squad, which includes offensive tackle Wanya Morris, who was added from outside the organization. The initial practice squad comprises players such as Israel Abanikanda (RB), Jordan Hudson (WR), and Justin Barron (LB), among others.

Hudson stood out during the preseason with impressive catches, while Barron, a converted safety, showed promise in coverage.

In addition to their own practice squad, the Cowboys saw some of their released players find new opportunities. Julius Wood was claimed by the Miami Dolphins after being a strong performer in the preseason, while guard Trevor Keegan joined the Minnesota Vikings. Sam Williams, who recorded 8.5 sacks in his first two seasons, signed with the Cleveland Browns after struggling to regain form post-injury.

Jaydon Blue, along with defensive backs Zion Childress and Trikweze Bridges, has also moved on, with Blue signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys continue to adjust their roster as they prepare for the upcoming season, with the potential for practice squad players to be elevated as needed throughout the year.

Further details about the Cowboys' roster adjustments and player performances are not yet clear.
