The Houston Texans have made a trade to acquire wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. Boutte confirmed the deal on social media prior to any official announcements from the teams involved. Reports indicate that the Texans sent safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick in 2028 to the Patriots in exchange for Boutte.
This trade follows an injury to Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. Higgins was expected to play a key role alongside star receiver Nico Collins, having recorded 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie last season.
Kayshon Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, had a productive season with 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns. His acquisition comes as the Texans look to fill the gap left by Higgins' injury.
The Patriots had a surplus of wide receivers after trading for A.J. Brown in June and signing Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million contract in March. Additionally, the Texans have signed veteran receivers Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard over the weekend to further bolster their receiving corps.
