Dallas Cowboys safety P.J. Locke left the team’s game against the Washington Commanders after suffering a foot injury during Washington’s opening possession. The injury occurred in Locke’s second game with Dallas.
A replay showed Locke moving toward a tackle before beginning to limp without making contact with another player, according to the report. Training staff helped him from the field, and he later went to the locker room under his own power.
The Cowboys had already ruled out safety Malik Hooker because of a forearm injury. Locke’s departure added to Dallas’ defensive injuries as the team sought a stronger defensive performance in its Week 2 home opener after losing to the New York Giants in the season opener.
Locke joined Dallas this offseason on a one-year deal worth $4 million after spending his first six NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos. He recorded two tackles in the Cowboys’ loss to New York.
The extent of Locke’s injury was not yet clear. Sports Illustrated reported that the story would be updated.
