South Hi Mount Elementary School's students and teachers on Fort Worth's west side are moving to a temporary campus after an engineering assessment of their building, NBC 5 reported Thursday.
Fort Worth ISD confirmed to the station that the school is relocating to the vacant building that once housed Western Hills Primary. That site is about five miles west of the Birchman Avenue campus, off Interstate 30 near Cherry Lane, according to NBC 5.
The school's PTA wrote to parents, according to the station, saying the move was a precaution taken on the recommendation of engineers who inspected the building. The part of the school that raised concerns has been cleared while officials decide what to do next.
No date has been set for students to return. The letter told parents a decision would come in the coming weeks, NBC 5 reported.
Neither the station's report nor the PTA letter, as described, identified what the engineers found or which part of the building is affected, and the district had not posted a public statement on its website by midday Thursday.
Parent meeting Monday
The PTA said on Facebook that a meeting for parents is planned for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, in the South Hi Mount cafeteria. The school's address is 4101 Birchman Ave.
