The Dallas Cowboys have released running back Jaydon Blue, previously viewed as a promising complementary player behind Javonte Williams. In a turn of events, Blue was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas' rival, to join their practice squad.

Blue, a fifth-round pick in 2025, has been candid about his struggles with maturity during his rookie season, which contributed to his time in the Cowboys' doghouse. Cowboys offensive coach Brian Schottenheimer indicated that there was little chance of Blue returning to the team when asked about the possibility.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys have added Emari Demercado, a former standout with the Arizona Cardinals, to their roster. Demercado, who stands 5-11 and weighs 215 pounds, brings experience and versatility to the Cowboys' backfield. He averaged an impressive 6.5 yards per carry during his time in Arizona and is expected to contribute on special teams and in pass protection.

Demercado's performance under Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams, who was with the Cardinals during Demercado's first two seasons, adds to the expectation of his impact on the team. In his three seasons with Arizona, Demercado rushed for 819 yards and three touchdowns on 126 carries.

The Cowboys now have Malik Davis as their No. 2 running back and Hunter Luepke as a fullback, with Israel Abanikanda returning to the practice squad. The decision to release Blue and sign Demercado raises questions about the team's running back strategy, especially considering the circumstances surrounding both players' transitions.

Further details on the Cowboys' decision-making process and the future roles of Blue and Demercado are not yet clear.
