The Dallas Cowboys have finalized a trade that will send offensive tackle Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Nate Thomas, 25, was selected by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2024 draft after playing college football at Louisiana. After spending his rookie season on injured reserve, he participated in all 17 games during the 2025 season, starting in four of them. Primarily playing as a left tackle, he has also trained as a swing tackle throughout his career.

During the offseason, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer indicated that Thomas was in competition with Tyler Guyton for the starting left tackle position. However, as training camp progressed, Schottenheimer noted that Guyton had demonstrated more consistency, leading to Thomas needing to improve his performance to challenge for the starting role.

In addition to trading Thomas, the Cowboys bolstered their offensive line by acquiring tackle Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who can play on both sides of the line. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones mentioned that the team has a strategy for their offensive tackle situation, suggesting potential adjustments as they finalize their roster.

As the deadline approaches for NFL teams to reduce their rosters to 53 players, the Cowboys' offensive tackle lineup now includes Tyler Guyton, Terence Steele, Broderick Jones, and fourth-round draft pick Drew Shelton. The final roster must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. CT.

Further details regarding the implications of this trade and the Cowboys' roster decisions are not yet clear.
