Three individuals lost their lives and two others were hospitalized following a wrong-way vehicle crash on State Highway 121 in Fort Worth. The incident occurred shortly after 1:20 a.m. near the intersection with North Riverside Drive along the Airport Freeway, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
Investigators determined that an adult operating a Jeep was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway. As the vehicle moved through lane two, it struck another car carrying three occupants. The driver of that second vehicle attempted to avoid the collision but was hit on the rear driver’s side. Authorities stated that none of the three people in that vehicle sustained major injuries.
The Jeep continued traveling in the wrong direction before colliding head-on with a four-door sedan. That vehicle contained three adults and a child. The driver of the Jeep died at the scene, as did two passengers in the sedan: an adult woman in the front seat and another adult woman in the back seat.
The male driver of the sedan and a child passenger, estimated to be between 10 and 11 years old, were transported to local hospitals. Police indicated that both are expected to survive.
Members of the Fort Worth Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit remain at the scene to gather evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events. The identities of the deceased will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office once official identification is completed and next of kin have been notified.
