Dallas is bracing for the first triple-digit temperatures of the summer, with Thursday forecast to be the hottest day so far. According to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, the high will reach 102 degrees, accompanied by a daytime heat index of 105. The low temperature is expected to remain at 81 degrees.
This marks the first time temperatures have hit triple digits in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this summer. After fluctuating in and out of forecasts throughout June, 100-degree highs appear to be settling in for the long term.
The intense heat is expected to persist through the weekend. Forecasters predict highs of 99 degrees on both Friday and Saturday, with heat indexes remaining as high as 105. Winds will be southerly at 10 to 20 mph, with higher gusts possible.
While Thursday offers a break from recent storms with no chance of precipitation, rain is expected to return later in the week. Marginal chances for rain will appear on Saturday, rising to a 44 percent chance of showers and storms on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday will also see a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms, with highs dropping slightly to 96 and 97 degrees respectively.
