Olivia Miles, a standout rookie from TCU, has been named a starter for the WNBA All-Star Game, marking a significant achievement in her debut season. The announcement was made on Thursday, with Miles being the only rookie selected among the ten starters. She is joined by Dallas Wings players Paige Bueckers and Jessica Shepard, who were also voted in as starters by fans, players, and media.
Miles has played a pivotal role in leading the Minnesota Lynx to the best record in the league at 15-4, despite the absence of their star player, Napheesa Collier, due to injury. In her rookie year, Miles has averaged 18.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. Prior to joining the WNBA, she guided TCU to its second consecutive Elite Eight appearance during her only season with the Horned Frogs.
Paige Bueckers, who was named the Rookie of the Year last season, has continued to excel in her second year, averaging 19.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.9 assists, helping the Wings achieve an 11-8 record this season, surpassing their total wins from the previous year. Bueckers and Miles were the top two vote-getters among guards, with Bueckers ranking first in votes from both fans and players, and second among media votes.
Voting for the All-Star starters was split, with fans contributing 50% of the vote, while media and players accounted for the remaining half. The selection process resulted in the top four guards and six frontcourt players being named starters. The other guards chosen were Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell of the Indiana Fever.
