Panther City BBQ is adding a second location in Fort Worth, with the new site situated near the Stockyards. Co-owner and pitmaster Chris Magallanes confirmed the expansion plans via email to WFAA. The restaurant will occupy a 1913 structure at 1540 N. Main St., which previously housed La Playa Maya. That establishment closed this summer, though it continues to operate other sites in North Texas.
The original Panther City BBQ location at 201 E. Hattie St. in the Southside will remain open, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The new Northside site is located just a few blocks from the Stockyards and is in proximity to other dining options, including Joe T Garcia's. The area is also seeing development, with two large luxury hotels potentially arriving soon.
The building at 1540 N. Main St. has a varied history. It was originally constructed as a city police substation. It later served as government offices and a public library branch. In 1940, the North Side Lions Club purchased the property, per Star-Telegram reporting.
Panther City BBQ is recognized on the Michelin Guide, a publication first released in the 1900s. The restaurant also appears in Texas Monthly's barbecue guide and Southern Living. The menu features a range of smoked meats with Mexican influences. Dishes include brisket elote cup and flacodilla, which consists of chopped brisket in a griddled tortilla with cheese, cilantro, and onion.
