The Texas Rangers secured a 10-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night in Arlington, a city located approximately 13 miles east of Fort Worth. The win relied heavily on production from players who have recently joined the roster or returned from the minor leagues.
Utility player Josh Smith provided a critical offensive boost. Smith had been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock two weeks prior, marking his first demotion since 2022. His return to the major league club was expedited after shortstop Corey Seager was placed on the injured list on Wednesday for the third time this season. Smith immediately contributed by hitting a 406-foot solo home run as a pinch-hitter. The blast provided insurance during the middle innings of the game.
Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi began the game but lost effectiveness by the sixth inning. He was replaced by Tyler Alexander, who recorded two outs before allowing an infield single and a walk that loaded the bases. Relief pitcher Peyton Gray entered the game and faced Hao-Yu Lee. Gray threw three consecutive strikes to record a strikeout, stranding the runners and maintaining the Rangers' lead.
Other recent additions to the team also had significant impacts. Catcher Elias Díaz, who signed with Texas on June 6 after being designated for assignment by the Kansas City Royals, opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. Infielder Nicky Lopez, who joined the team on May 27 after being designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs, went 3-for-4 at the plate.
