Fort Worth Animal Care & Control is introducing a new mobile veterinary service named Chip & Snip to bring essential pet care directly to residents. The city announced the initiative in a blog post published on Wednesday, detailing how the fully equipped trailer will operate across various neighborhoods.
The mobile clinic is scheduled to begin its route on Saturday, July 18. Its primary function is to offer free spay and neuter procedures throughout Fort Worth. The department aims to use this mobile unit to expand access to critical services and remove logistical barriers that might prevent pet owners from seeking care.
This program supports the city’s broader goal of promoting responsible pet ownership. Fort Worth Animal Care & Control has already performed more than 5,335 spay and neuter surgeries at its shelter facilities since the beginning of the current fiscal year. Officials state that the mobile trailer will help build on this existing momentum by meeting residents where they live.
The initiative seeks to reduce the population of homeless animals by preventing unplanned litters. Additionally, the department notes that spaying and neutering pets offers health advantages, such as a reduced risk of cancer and decreased aggressive behavior.
The trailer contains modern medical equipment that enables licensed veterinarians to perform surgeries, administer vaccinations, and provide microchipping services. Residents can drop off their pets for scheduled appointments and pick them up on the same day. Services are available through an online registration portal.
