A hot, humid, and potentially rainy holiday weekend is expected to begin Friday in North Texas as the region approaches America’s 250th birthday. The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office has issued forecasts indicating high heat and significant moisture for the area.
Friday is projected to reach a high of 98 degrees with a low of 78 degrees. The heat index, which reflects how hot it feels to the human body, is expected to hit 101 degrees. Temperatures will remain near 100 degrees on July 4, with a predicted high of 99 degrees. By Sunday, the high will be 98 degrees, accompanied by a heat index of 102 degrees.
Residents are advised to take precautions against the heat. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends drinking plenty of water, seeking shade when possible, and wearing hats and sunscreen. The agency also suggests limiting the intake of caffeine and alcohol, noting that these substances can contribute to dehydration.
Precipitation is not ruled out during the holiday period. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all carry a slight chance of showers and isolated non-severe thunderstorms. The probability of rain is expected to peak on Sunday at 15 percent. Humidity levels and partly cloudy skies are anticipated to persist throughout the weekend.
Specific forecasts for the upcoming days include partly sunny conditions on Saturday with a low of 80 and a high of 98, along with south winds of 10 to 15 mph. Sunday will see partly cloudy skies, a low of 80, and a high of 97, with a 30 percent chance for an isolated storm and south winds of 5 to 10 mph.
