A Fort Worth resident has been identified by FIFA as the 50 millionth person to attend a World Cup tournament match. Immy Khan received the distinction after entering Dallas Stadium for the Round of 16 contest between Spain and Portugal on Monday.
Khan, whose family originates from Pakistan, was honored during Spain’s 1-0 victory in front of 70,649 spectators. The match marked Khan’s ninth appearance at a 2026 FIFA World Cup event. To mark the occasion, FIFA legends Carles Puyol and Pepe presented Khan with a large ceremonial ticket.
FIFA reported that total attendance across all World Cup tournaments since the first competition in 1930 reached 50,020,653 following the match. The 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, has drawn 6,071,923 fans through 93 games, with 11 matches remaining.
Khan expressed gratitude for the experience, noting the hospitality and facilities. He stated he was wearing United States gear ahead of the U.S. men’s national team’s Round of 16 match against Belgium later that day, despite supporting Spain in the Monday game. Khan named U.S. midfielder Weston McKennie as his favorite player in the tournament.
Khan highlighted the unifying nature of the event, observing fans from various backgrounds traveling across the host nations to celebrate football. He plans to continue attending games through the conclusion of the tournament, including the semifinals and the final at New York New Jersey Stadium.
