The Dallas-Fort Worth region has emerged as a significant center for technology employment, ranking third nationwide in job postings behind Washington, D.C. and New York City. Data from May indicates nearly 11,000 tech-related positions were available in the metro area, according to an analysis by CompTIA.
Industry observers note that North Texas has historically concentrated on sectors such as financial technology, cybersecurity, telecommunications, healthcare, and insurance. Timothy Bray, director of the Institute for Urban Policy Research at the University of Texas at Dallas, stated that while Austin may generate ideas for large-scale data infrastructure, North Texas industries are responsible for bringing those concepts to production.
This growth has spurred local networking initiatives. Chris Oyeku, who has worked in the Dallas-Fort Worth tech sector for over a decade, launched MixerCloud events in 2022 to connect professionals. Although the gatherings shifted from monthly to bi-monthly, attendance remains steady at several hundred individuals. Oyeku is now developing an application to expand the platform's reach.
