DFW faces 100-degree heat and rising wildfire risks this week

The National Weather Service forecasts near-100 degree temperatures and elevated fire danger in the region's western areas through the weekend.

Temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are expected to reach approximately 100 degrees on Thursday, with the heat index approaching 105 degrees. The National Weather Service office in Fort Worth issued this forecast on Wednesday afternoon, noting that nighttime lows will remain in the mid- to low-90s. As of that time, no heat advisory had been issued for Thursday.

The region is also facing an elevated wildfire threat that is expected to persist through the remainder of the week. This risk is primarily concentrated in the western part of the metroplex. The weather service identified Saturday as the most significant day for fire weather conditions, citing an anticipated increase in wind speeds.

Triple-digit temperatures are projected to continue into the weekend. Friday and Saturday are both forecast to reach highs of 99 degrees, while Sunday will also see a high of 99 degrees. Winds are expected to come from the southeast at 10 to 15 mph on Friday, shifting to the south at similar speeds on Saturday and Sunday.

A potential break in the heat pattern may arrive early next week. The National Weather Service indicated that a weak cold front could lower temperatures below the triple-digit range. Monday is forecast to be partly cloudy and warm with a high of 93 degrees and a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Tuesday will be partly cloudy and warm with a high of 91 degrees, marking the start of fall at 7:05 p.m.
