The public can walk through the new Fort Worth Texas Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints starting Thursday, Nov. 5, ahead of its dedication in January.
The open house runs through Saturday, Nov. 21, every day except Sundays, the church said in a release Monday, Nov. 2. Journalists and invited guests toured the building first: a media day was held Monday, and invited-guest tours are set for Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Church News, the church-owned news service.
The temple sits at 1851 Greenridge Drive in Burleson, on a 9.4-acre site near Southwest Hulen Street, just south of the Fort Worth city limits. Church News reported that the single-story building covers about 29,630 square feet and stands 124 feet, 10 inches tall at the top of its spire.
What visitors will see
The church says the interior draws on Spanish colonial architecture, with patterns inspired by Spanish lace, interlocking quatrefoils, decorative arches, custom metalwork and art glass. Church News reported that the exterior is limestone over a steel frame and that the grounds are planted with species such as agave, Mexican petunia and American beautyberry.
Church leaders describe a temple as different from the meetinghouses where members gather for Sunday services.
