The Detroit Tigers will not play on Friday, July 3, as part of a mid-series break during their current four-day span against the Texas Rangers. The teams are scheduled to play three games between Thursday, July 2, and Sunday, July 5. The Tigers will resume play on the Fourth of July, aligning with the standard schedule for Major League Baseball teams on the holiday.

The decision to insert an off day stems from a soccer event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Arlington is about 13 miles east of Fort Worth. The stadium will host a Round of 32 World Cup match between Australia and Egypt on Friday at 2 p.m. ET. The venue is located less than a 10-minute walk from Globe Life Field, the Rangers' home ballpark.

Rather than attempting to coordinate around the soccer match, the Rangers organization chose to schedule a day off. This is the second instance in the past month where the Rangers have taken an irregular break for World Cup games. On Wednesday, June 17, the team took a day off in the middle of a series against the Minnesota Twins to accommodate a group stage match between England and Croatia. The Rangers completed that series the following day.

Details regarding the specific traffic mitigation strategies or alternative routing plans for fans are not yet clear. The Tigers and Rangers will continue their series on Sunday, July 5, with no further information provided about potential future schedule adjustments related to international soccer events.
