Mourners gathered in Fort Worth on Friday to celebrate the life of LaTaivia Davis, an elementary school teacher who was fatally shot earlier this month.
Davis, 30, died after being struck by gunfire while walking near her home in the city’s Westside neighborhood. Her death has sparked widespread grief and calls for justice across North Texas.
The funeral service took place at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church on Friday afternoon. Hundreds of people attended the event, including family members, colleagues, and community leaders who came to honor Davis’s memory.
During the service, speakers described Davis as a dedicated educator and a beloved member of her community. Her sister, Tameka Davis, spoke about her sibling’s passion for teaching and her commitment to helping students succeed.
"She loved her job," Tameka Davis said. "She loved her students. She wanted to make a difference in their lives."
Davis taught at Westside Elementary School, where she was known for her enthusiasm and dedication to her students. Colleagues remembered her as a supportive teammate who always went above and beyond for her pupils.
"LaTaivia was the kind of teacher who would stay after school just to help one student understand a concept," said former colleague Sarah Johnson. "She cared deeply about every child in her classroom."
