The Texas Education Agency-appointed interim board for the Fort Worth Independent School District has scheduled a public meeting to engage with residents and stakeholders.
The listening session is set for 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, at the Junior League of Fort Worth. The event will last approximately 90 minutes. Board members intend to use this time to gather feedback from the community as they develop goals and performance metrics to monitor the district's progress under state oversight.
The Texas Education Agency assumed control of the district in October 2025 after TEA Commissioner Mike Morath determined that the previously elected school board had failed to implement necessary changes to improve student performance over several consecutive years.
State law requires intervention when a school district fails to meet accountability standards for five straight years, allowing the commissioner to replace elected officials with a state-appointed board of managers.
At the time of the takeover announcement, Morath noted that academic challenges were widespread across the district rather than limited to a single campus. He stated that only 34 percent of Fort Worth ISD students were meeting grade-level requirements at that time, a figure significantly lower than the state average.
