The Fort Worth Police Department Homicide Unit launched an investigation into a death discovered inside a vacant property in the Historic Como neighborhood. Officers responded to the 5800 block of Kilpatrick Avenue on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at approximately 8:20 a.m., after a person interested in buying the house reported seeing a body hanging within the structure.
Initial findings by homicide detectives and crime scene investigators indicate no evidence of foul play, according to police. Investigators have not yet confirmed whether the incident was a suicide. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner is responsible for identifying the remains, determining the cause of death, and establishing the ethnicity of the deceased individual.
Rico Copeland, a resident in the area, noted that locals had observed a homeless man squatting in the vacant house. Some community members expressed a desire to learn more about the person who died and the circumstances surrounding the event.
Police stated they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to residents in the Como neighborhood. The department is asking anyone with information regarding the case to contact them.
