A Five-Run Surge Decides It

A five-run outburst in the middle innings allowed the Houston Astros to overcome an early deficit and defeat the Chicago White Sox 6-3 at Daikin Park. The visitors took the lead in the third inning, but Houston answered immediately in the fourth and fifth to pull ahead for good. The Astros finished with a record of 70-68, while the White Sox dropped to 72-65.

Scoring Breakdown

Chicago scored first in the third inning when Carlos Alvarez grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Allen to score. The game was tied at 1-1 after the top of the fourth before Houston began its rally. In the bottom of the fourth, Meidroth singled to left to drive in C. Montgomery.

Murakami then walked to score Meidroth. The decisive blow came when Velázquez hit a 415-foot home run to left, scoring Smith and extending the lead to 3-1.

Houston continued its attack in the fifth inning. Walker walked to score Vázquez, making it 4-1. Then Smith doubled to left, driving in Alvarez and Paredes to make the score 6-1. Chicago managed one more run in the seventh when C. Montgomery homered to right, but it was not enough to change the outcome.

Pitching Performance

Anthony Kay took the loss for Chicago, pitching 4.2 innings while allowing six hits and five earned runs. He also issued two walks and struck out five batters. Enyel De Los Santos earned the win, pitching one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run, though he issued three walks. Bryan Abreu recorded the save, pitching one inning with two strikeouts and one walk.
