TCU’s volleyball team returns to Schollmaier Arena on Friday, Oct. 2, with nine consecutive victories and a ranked opponent waiting to test that run.
The No. 9 Horned Frogs host No. 24 Colorado at 6:30 p.m. Central before facing UCF at home Sunday at 2 p.m. TCU is 11–2, while Colorado brings a 10–2 overall record and a 1–1 conference mark into Friday’s match.
Home has been a productive setting for the Horned Frogs: the program reports a 31–3 record at Schollmaier over the past three seasons. The current No. 9 position also matches TCU’s highest ranking, according to the AVCA’s Sept. 28 poll announcement.
The streak’s latest installment was less comfortable than a three-set sweep. At West Virginia on Sept. 27, TCU dropped the opening set 25–18 before taking the next three 25–22, 25–19 and 25–17. The Horned Frogs also erased a 10–5 deficit in the third set.
Nine aces and a .254 team hitting percentage helped TCU prevail. West Virginia hit .201 but had the better blocking total, 9–6.
Analysis: a test beyond the ranking
The West Virginia result offers a useful way to watch Friday’s match. TCU did not need every comparison to favor it, and an unpromising start did not dictate the result. Its response mattered more than the first-set score.
