Southern Methodist University’s head volleyball coach, Sam Erger, faced a two-game suspension for impermissible communication, as confirmed by a university spokesperson. This suspension, self-imposed by SMU Athletics, occurred on August 29 and 30.
During Erger's absence, the Mustangs secured victories against Colorado State and UC Davis. In the match against Colorado State, the team won in four sets, with sophomore outside hitter Suli Davis achieving her first double-double, recording 22 kills and 14 digs. The Mustangs then defeated UC Davis in a five-set match.
Erger returned to coaching on September 2 during a match against TCU, where the Mustangs lost in five sets. In that game, Davis again led the team with 15 kills, while freshman Bojana Ambulija made a notable debut with 13 kills.
Since taking over the program in February 2022, Erger has led the Mustangs to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet Sixteen finish in 2025. The Mustangs are scheduled to play the University of San Diego next, with the match available for streaming on ESPN+.
