SMU senior Enzo Panozzo received his first Atlantic Coast Conference weekly award after the Mustangs’ 1-0 home victory over NC State, SMU Athletics reported. Panozzo shares the defensive honor with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly, and the conference announced the selection Tuesday.
The Sarasota, Florida, native served as SMU’s defensive captain and scored the only goal against NC State. The result was the Mustangs’ fifth shutout this season, with NC State managing eight shots and putting two of them on target. SMU has earned two conference weekly awards this season.
Following the win, the Mustangs moved to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. They are 7-0-1 overall, including a 2-0-0 mark in ACC competition. SMU is scheduled to return to conference play Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
