People already working to revive a Fort Worth commercial corridor or neighborhood can apply through Friday, Dec. 11, for a seat in a new training program the city is running with the national nonprofit Main Street America.

The Community Quarterback Training Program will take 35 participants through a competitive selection, the city announced Friday. Sessions cover organizational and community development, market strategy, support for small businesses, promotion and fundraising. The workshops mix virtual and in-person meetings and are held one Saturday a month from January through July 2027, with the full schedule posted on the city's Main Street webpage.

Applicants will hear whether they were accepted by late December.

Who the city is looking for

The city describes the program as a fit for people who are already organizing, on their own or through a group. Examples it lists include business and property owners, nonprofit staff, community development professionals, representatives of faith-based or neighborhood groups, chamber of commerce representatives and longtime volunteers or advocates.

Priority goes to applicants from the city's 12 revitalization target areas:

  • Altamesa & McCart
  • Camp Bowie West
  • Como
  • East Berry
  • East Lancaster
  • Historic Handley
  • Historic Southside
  • Historic Northside
  • Polytechnic Heights
  • Riverside
  • Stop Six
  • Woodhaven

People from outside those areas will be considered if seats remain.

Building on a 2022 pilot

The program grows out of a 2022 pilot in two Main Street districts, Historic Northside and Polytechnic Heights. The city's announcement quotes Phillip Michael Smart, Fort Worth's revitalization manager, and Chandra Teddleton, a program officer at Main Street America.

The application is available in English and Spanish on the city's Main Street page at fortworthtexas.gov.
