The Houston Texans have received positive news regarding wide receiver Tank Dell, who is recovering from a serious knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 2025 season. General manager Nick Caserio stated that while Dell is making progress, the team is not rushing his return, emphasizing the need for him to regain his high-end speed before returning to play.

Dell, who was placed on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return, must miss at least the first four games of the regular season. Caserio noted that Dell is closer to returning than he was at the start of training camp, but there remains significant work to be done before he can participate in an NFL game.

He highlighted that being “close” does not equate to being fully ready, especially given the severity of Dell's injury, which included a dislocated kneecap and tears to multiple ligaments.

Caserio explained that Dell has shown improvement in his quickness and ability to change direction while running shorter routes. However, the critical next step is for Dell to rebuild his capacity for sustained high-speed running, which is essential for his playing style. Dell's game relies on acceleration and separation rather than overpowering defenders, making his top-end speed crucial for his effectiveness on the field.

Before his injury, Dell had established himself as a key player for the Texans, catching 98 passes for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns over his first two seasons. His ability to stretch the field and create space for other receivers was vital to the Texans’ offense.

With Dell's absence, the Texans have an opportunity to evaluate other receivers and build chemistry with quarterback C.J. Stroud. Players like Boutte and Noel will have the chance to step up in Dell's absence, providing valuable insights into the team's offensive needs without him.

The Texans will use the first four games to assess their options and determine how best to reintegrate Dell when he is ready to return.

As the Texans move forward, the focus remains on Dell's recovery and ensuring he returns to the field at his previous level of performance, rather than simply meeting a timeline for his return.
