Kenny Clark said the Cowboys are ready to play Sunday’s game against the Ravens at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, even as questions remain about the playing surface. The NFL has said the matchup will be held as scheduled.
Clark, a Cowboys defensive tackle, previously played in São Paulo for the Green Bay Packers two years ago. The field in that game against the Philadelphia Eagles was criticized for being difficult to grip. Eagles running back Saquon Barkley changed cleats during the contest, while Clark used a pair with seven studs to improve traction.
The NFL has been tracking conditions at the Rio stadium. Nick Pappas, the league’s field director, told The Dallas Morning News that league personnel have visited the venue throughout the month and continued to closely monitor the surface.
The Cowboys are expected to see the field for the first time Saturday. Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the team will bring multiple footwear choices, while allowing players to select what feels best to them. He said the team will have additional shoes available if adjustments become necessary.
