Milton, who has shown impressive arm talent, has yet to serve as a starting quarterback in the NFL but has garnered positive attention from both fans and coaches.
Schottenheimer described his feelings about Milton's return to the practice squad, stating, "We’re thrilled to get him back. He’s gonna continue to get better," as reported by Jon Machota of The Athletic. Milton was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, where he played in one regular-season game.
In April 2025, Milton was traded to the Cowboys, where he participated in four games, gaining valuable experience despite not starting any of them. After being waived at the end of August, Milton opted to rejoin the Cowboys' practice squad, indicating his satisfaction with the team's direction and coaching staff.
The Cowboys are set to kick off their 2026 season on September 13 against the New York Giants, led by quarterback Jaxson Dart.
