Rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham will wear the green dot and communicate the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive calls in their Week 2 game against the Washington Commanders, Sporting News reported.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed the change, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. The responsibility gives Barham, a third-round pick from Michigan, control of the defense against a Washington offense led by Jayden Daniels.
The move follows a difficult defensive showing in the Cowboys’ season opener against the New York Giants. Dallas gave up 28 points and struggled to slow the Giants’ offense.
Both Dallas and Washington lost to NFC East opponents in Week 1. Their upcoming matchup will leave the losing team with an 0-2 record.
