Two fatalities and two hospitalizations resulted from an early Sunday morning shooting on the east side of Fort Worth, according to city officials.
Fort Worth Police Department officers arrived at the 4300 block of Martin Street at 3:32 a.m. to find a large backyard gathering in disarray. Initial reports indicated a physical fight had started between an adult man and woman who were acquainted with one another.
The situation changed when a second adult male stepped in to separate the pair. That intervention triggered a physical struggle between the two men, which quickly turned deadly as both pulled out weapons and exchanged shots.
Four adult males sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange. Paramedics from the Fort Worth Fire Department arrived on the scene but were unable to save two of the victims. One of those killed was the man who had attempted to intervene in the original dispute.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is handling the identification process for the deceased. Officials stated that identities will be released only after next of kin have been notified. The medical examiner will also determine the official cause and manner of death for each victim.
