Egypt national team coach Hossam Hassan indicated that a dispute involving a Dallas police officer at the team’s hotel has been resolved. The incident occurred in the lobby of the hotel where the squad was staying, just one day before Egypt defeated Australia in a penalty shootout during the round of 16 at the World Cup.
Video footage began circulating on Thursday showing Hassan and Egypt’s director, Ibrahim Hassan, arguing with a police officer. The confrontation reportedly started when the officer approached Hossam Hassan. The situation escalated when Ibrahim Hassan became involved, leading to a physical exchange of shoves. Ibrahim Hassan appeared frustrated by the officer’s intervention.
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers were responding to a request from hotel security personnel. The agency stated that an individual without event credentials was attempting to gain access to the area. Police said the matter was handled on-site and that they met with Egyptian representatives to address their concerns.
Hossam Hassan confirmed that the team had accepted an apology from the police. He expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements provided during the tournament. He highlighted the high level of organization and safety measures in place for the team.
Hassan holds the distinction of being the first person to both play for and coach Egypt in a World Cup. The victory over Australia marked Egypt’s debut in the knockout stage of the tournament.
